Museum history
On the eve of the fifth anniversary of independence, the Museum of Olympic glory was opened in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Museum of Olympic glory was established by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers dated August 14, 1996, No. 284.
The opening ceremony of the museum was attended by the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, and the then President of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch.
In his speech at the opening of the museum, Samaranch said: "In the Republic of Uzbekistan, great attention is being paid to the role of sports in society. That is why sports are developing rapidly in your country. I believe that the museum will be filled with medals won by Uzbek athletes in various international competitions." During the inspection of the exhibits, Samaranch expressed the following opinion: "This museum is no different from the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, which is part of the International Olympic Committee." The Olympic Hall of glory has a reciprocal agreement with the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. The opening of the Olympic Museum, the only one in Central Asia, is an international recognition of the high attention and care devoted to the development of sports, including those in the Olympic program, as well as the energy, perseverance, and victories of our country's athletes on the world stage.
The President of our republic, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, paid great attention not only to our Olympians, but also to our Paralympians. The museum was renamed as "Olympic and paralympic glory" museum based on the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-79 dated January 12, 2023. The main goal and mission of the museum
In our country, one of the important means of raising the young generation to become well-rounded person is to promote sports among our youth, to develop a healthy lifestyle among them, and to prepare future Olympic reserves. To awaken in them feelings of love for the country, by reflecting the achievements of our athletes in the world arena, is to instill in the minds of the young generation a sense of belonging to the development and great future of our country, and to show the achievements of Uzbekistan's athletes in the years of independence to the visitors of the museum. On the second floor of the museum, there are exhibits related to the history of the modern Olympic Games. The museum fund has unique objects and collections that are not found in any other Olympic museum in the world.
Every day, foreign tourists, schoolchildren, college and university students visit the Olympic Museum, which is considered a mirror of Uzbek sports. In addition, various meetings and round talks between famous athletes of our country and young people are held here. This museum, which tells about the glorious victories of Uzbek athletes in international sports arenas, is being enriched with new exhibits. Now, in many types of sports, the national teams of Uzbekistan are among the leaders in the world. Photos of their great victories are in the museum. Every person who entered the museum felt it deeply, and his heart was filled with infinite pride and pride.
