History of the museum

The Museum of Olympic Glory was solemnly opened on September 1, 1996, during the celebration of the 5th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The opening ceremony was attended by the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and the President of the International Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch.

Juan Antonio Samaranch said: “The President of Uzbekistan pays great attention to the development of sports. And therefore in your country sport develops very quickly. I believe that the collection of the museum will be replenished with various medals of Olympic champions. ” During a tour of the museum, Kh.A. Samaranch noted that the Museum of Olympic Glory in Uzbekistan is in no way inferior to the Museum in Lausanne. ” The opening of the only Olympic Museum in Central Asia is an international recognition of the fact that in our country great attention is paid to the development of professional sports, especially Olympic sports.

The main objective of the museum is to promote healthy lifestyles among the younger generation, and the preparation of future Olympians, for example, the Uzbek athletes who won medals at various competitions. The younger generation has a sense of pride, responsibility and a desire to glorify their country with their own sports victories, and the demonstration of medals won by our athletes arouses the feeling of love for the Motherland.
